Ruut is a contemporary weaving brand from Gent. Scarfs and carpets are created with traditional Finnish Toika loom. I mix traditional technique with current design and creativity. Through weaving I feel deeply connected to Finnish culture.

It feels great to immerse myself in an ancient skill, and explore all the wonderful things you can do with it. The world of patterns, materials and colours has captivated me. The use of recycled materials, and the recyclability of my products are my core values. As well as durability, fixability and love for each piece. A product that you truly love is something you want to look after year after year.

I am fond of the term slow fashion, because that’s what my work really is; every thread is put in place by my own hands.

Who is behind Ruut?

I’m Elina from Gent. I started a small weaving brand named Ruut. My main profession is in architecture, but I was also drawn to the craft. Now I balance between these two.
